Do's and Don'ts

Cash -- If you're coming here from another country and you plan to use cash, please make sure you exchange your foreign currency for Canadian currency. And please, don't make fun of our money. Yes, it's colourful (the colours make it easier to identify different denomination of bills) and the newer bills are polymer and feel very different from paper bills, but that's what our bills are like, we're proudly Canadian, so please enjoy the foreign experience. We do not have one or two dollar bills, but one and two dollar coins (commonly known as "loonies" and "toonies"), and we no longer use pennies. For purchases made with cash, the final total will be rounded up or down to the nearest 5 cents.

Sorting Compost, Recyclables, and Waste -- You will likely need a year-long resident of the Island to help you with this. Sometimes even we need a little help! None of us have just one receptacle for anything we're throwing out, we need 4 different containers: one for compostable items; one for recyclable paper products; one for recyclable plastics and glass; and one for waste -- anything that doesn't go in one of the other containers. Start brushing up on our waste management system by checking out the Island Waste Management Corporation site at http://www.iwmc.pe.ca/index.php  Even if something is recyclable or compostable in one province or state, it may not be here because the proper facilities do not exist. Please be mindful of what constitutes recyclable and compostable products on PEI.
